Grace Riker, of Bridgewater, has qualified as a finalist in the FOX 33 Idol Talent Search. Riker will be competing Saturday, Aug. 18, for a guaranteed audition at the official “American Idol” auditions in Philadelphia. She is one of 15 finalists. Riker would like to invite all of her friends and neighbors to attend the final elimination round at Rome Free Academy auditorium at 8 p.m. There will be two individual judges, and the third judge will be the audience. Admission is free. “I’ve always enjoyed musical theatre and started doing the school musicals in second grade with my music teacher, then Lorraine Burney,” Riker said. “I kept at it through middle school with my music teacher, Neal Allen. If ‘American Idol’ doesn’t work out, I will continue school and after I graduate, I would like to go to New York City to study the performing arts and hopefully star on Broadway.” Riker will be a junior this year at Mount Markham Central School. She plays field hockey and throws discus for the track and field team.
