Fly Creek Cider Mill wins award for brochure

BOSTON – The Fly Creek Cider Mill & Orchard was awarded first
place for their full-color brochure at the North American Farmers’
Direct Marketing Association’s (NAFDMA) annual conference. “This year,
competition was stiff,” said Bill Michaels, co-owner of the mill. “Many
operations like ours across North America have invested in a quality
printed promotional piece for their family farm.”
The conference attracted more than 1,000 farmers from the United
States, Canada and England for a week of tours, seminars and trade
shows. The program is designed to educate participants on the
advantages of agri-tourism and farm direct sales for keeping the family
farm alive.
“The mill has been attending the NAFDMA conference since 1995,”
Michaels said. “We believe that it is our best tool for making the mill
what it is today. We have learned a great deal from both our fellow
farm marketers and the professional presenters booked by NAFDMA.”
The mill’s winning brochure, designed by Kurt Pelton of Sloansville,
has an annual print run of more than 50,000 distributed regionally to
attract visitors.
The mill will reopen Saturday, May 21, for its 149th season with the
introduction of new items, such as freshly baked breads, gourmet
dessert syrups and a larger variety of grilling sauces and marinades.
On April 9, the staff and mill friends will board a motor coach for a
day trip to New
York City to experience merchandising and marketing techniques used
by New York’s specialty food retailers. Mill customers are invited to
attend and can receive an itinerary by calling the mill. The mill is
also filling many team member positions for the coming season in food
service, p
roduction and retail. Candidates are encouraged to contact the
mill’s personnel manager, Lin Molloy, by phone at (607) 547-9692 to set
up an appointment.
