Although Bush is now a part of our past, we are left with a giant hole in our treasury. The Iraq and Afghanistan wars are continuing to cost us more than half a billion dollars a day. Although we have a new president, we are continuing to spend almost 55 times what the six states Bush designated as “rogue” states spend: North Korea, Cuba, Libya, Syria, Sudan and Iran. We spend more than Russia spends by 10.2 percent and more than what Iran spends by 98.6 percent. And can we accept the fact, morally speaking, that we are continuing to send massive military aid to Israel with no strings attached when we know that Israel has used our weapons to destroy more than one thousand people in Gaza and so many of their homes, hospitals and schools? It is time to exercise our rights of free speech and call our president on the White House comment line at 202-456-1111. Let him know how we stand, particularly about our increased involvement in Afghanistan. Hilda Wilcox
