Five local teams make playoffs
|
The Section III and Section IV playoffs started this week for football, soccer and field hockey, and five area teams will be playing in sectionals.
The Mount Markham boys soccer and field hockey teams received No. 1 seeds and first round byes. The soccer team (15-3) will play a Class B quarterfinals game Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Markham High School. The Mustangs will play the winner of No. 9 Skaneateles (10-5-3) and No. 8 Ilion (11-6-1).
The field hockey team (13-3-2) will play a Class C semifinals game at Sauquoit Valley High School Saturday at 9 a.m. The Lady Mustangs will play the winner of No. 5 Sherburne-Earlville (8-8-2) and No. 4 Canastota (9-5-4).
The Mount Markham girls soccer team was slated to play a Class B first round game Tuesday. The Lady Mustangs (7-11) were seeded 13th and set to square off against No. 4 Westhill (13-5) on the road. Lowville (16-2) got the top seed.
The Cherry Valley-Springfield boys and girls soccer teams got first round byes in the Section IV Class D playoff brackets.
The boys, the defending sectional champions, finished the regular season at 13-3 and received the No. 3 seed. They will host the winner of No. 11 Morris (7-7-3) and No. 6 Windham (10-5) Friday at 3:30 p.m. South Kortright (14-2-1) got the top seed.
The girls were also seeded third after ending the season 13-2. They will host the winner of No. 11 Schenevus (7-7-2) and No. 6 Downsville (11-3-2) Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Edmeston (17-0) is the No. 1 seed.
