CANASTOTA – Justin Deming gave up only four hits, but Mount Markham was edged by Canastota, 2-1, Monday, in a Center State Conference Division II (CSC II) baseball game at Canastota High School. James Lesher struck out 10 batters, as the Red Raiders improved to 9-4 overall and 5-3 in the division. Kyle Savage had two hits, including a triple, and scored both runs. Jeff Ratcliffe had two hits for the Mustangs, who fell to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the CSC II. Earlier in the week, Mount Markham beat Sauquoit Valley, 6-5, Saturday, in a CSC II game at Mount Markham High School. Deming’s RBI double in the sixth inning broke a 5-5 tie. Deming finished with four hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Joe Orsino added a double. Brian Gaskell had three hits for the Indians, and Kyle Edelman doubled and drove in a run. Earlier in the week, Mount Markham lost to Cooperstown, 6-5, last Wednesday, in a CSC II game at Cooperstown Central School. Phillip Pohl hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie, then got the save on the mound the next inning. The Redskins scored five runs that inning to take the lead. Tyler Combs, Frank Petroskey and Brian Segit doubled, as Cooperstown improved to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the division. Deming had a double for the Mustangs. Mount Markham hosts West Canada Valley, Wednesday, and Holland Patent, Friday.
