SOUTH KORTRIGHT – Cherry Valley-Springfield couldn’t complete the rally, last Friday, in a 3-2 loss to South Kortright in a Section IV Class D quarterfinals boys soccer game at South Kortright Central School. The fifth seeded Patriots trailed 2-0 at halftime before goals from Jeremy Hoag and Jason Guernsey tied the game with 30 minutes to play. Kyle Hotaling scored the game winner for the fourth seeded Rams, who improved to 15-2-2. Hotaling scored on a put-back with 19 minutes remaining. Justin Townsend and Adam Burns also scored for South Kortright, and Townsend added an assist. Mike Cagganello had an assist for CV-S (13-4-2). Rams goalie Garrett Rockefeller had five saves and Mathias VanDerwerker had 12 for the Patriots. Earlier in the week, CV-S beat Worcester, 5-0, last Tuesday, in the opening round of the playoffs, at Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School. Hoag scored twice for the Patriots, while David Adams, Guernsey and Chris Anderson also scored. Ian Hull, Chip Taylor and Cagganello had assists. CV-S outshot Worcester, 19-7. The 12th seeded Wolverines finished 5-9-2.
