WEST WINFIELD – The Mount Markham girls soccer team beat Canastota, 4-3, last Friday, in a Center State Conference Division II game. Sandie Sponholtz, Trisha McNamara, Marie Cole and Tracey Lynk scored for the Mustangs, who improved to 6-4-1 and 4-1 in the division. Cole, Lynk, Brandy Werczynski and Melissa Haggerty had assists for Mount Markham. Brianna Quaglia scored two goals for Canastota, and Katherine Foran had a goal and an assist. Chelsea Backus and Sara Pulverenti each had an assist. Earlier in the week, Mount Markham was edged by Ilion, 1-0, last Wednesday, in a Center State Conference (CSC) crossover game, at Mustang Stadium at Mount Markham High School. Stephanie Lachacz scored a first half goal for the Golden Bombers on an assist from Kelsie Durant. Goalie Jackie Reese had 12 saves for Ilion, who improved to 10-1 with a 5-1 record in the CSC Division I. Courtney Roberts had 15 saves for the Mustangs.
