Ilion Post 920 captured the Herkimer County American Legion baseball championship with 13-0 and 12-2 victories over neighboring Herkimer last Thursday and Friday evenings in the best-of-three series. In the 13-0 win last Thursday in Herkimer, former Little Falls standout and current Herkimer County Community College General Chad Salls pitched a complete-game shut out with 15 strikeouts, and also homered at the plate, to lead Ilion to the rout. In the next night’s 10-run, title-clinching victory in Ilion, Korey Perkins had three base hits (he had four in Game One’s win, including a home run and a triple) and it was West Canada Valley’s Dan DeKalb’s turn to pitch all seven innings as Post 920 (13-6-1) advanced to this week’s District V Tournament at Murnane Field in Utica for the seventh consecutive season.
