Lady Mustangs conclude regular season at 9-11 overall
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — The Richfield Springs girls basketball team
concluded its 2005-06 campaign with home losses last week to Center
State Conference Division III-champ West Canada Valley and Old Forge,
but was victorious in a non-league tilt on Senior Night against CSC
Division IV-foe Remsen.
In a 53-15 defeat last Tuesday to state-ranked West Canada, senior
forward Lindsay Domion scored four points for the Indians, classmate
Lynzie Bond scored three, while Freya Appelt, Jessica Hext, Lauren
Richards and Shelby Seamon all contributed two points apiece.
Senior forward Sara Roseen tallied a game-high 18 points for WCV,
which concluded the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record against
other CSC Division III teams.
Three days later on Senior Night for the Lady Indians last Friday,
Domion scored seven of her game-high 10 points during a decisive
fourth-quarter run in which the home team outscored visiting Remsen
19-9 on its way to a satisfying 39-30 triumph.
Junior guard Kaitlin Bello had nine points and six assists in the
win, while freshman forward Katie Moshier added eight points and 13
rebounds.
And in a 43-32, season-ending home loss to non-league foe Old Forge,
Domion and Moshier scored eight points apiece for Richfield, which was
outscored 19-8 in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Indians concluded the season with a 2-8 record in the
league and a 7-13 mark overall, and have chosen not to participate in
the “open” Section III post-season tournament.
Patriots finish up 5-10
CHERRY VALLEY — Cherry Valley-Springfield’s season came to an end
with a 70-47 defeat at home to non-league power Walton last Monday
evening on what was Senior Night for Lady Patriots Ashley Van Brink,
Virginia Glynn and Kaylee Wilson.
Freshman forward Courtney Van Brink had 16 points and 17 rebounds in
the loss for CV-S, Megan Shirey scored 12 points, while Ashley Van
Brink chipped in with 15 rebounds.
Said first-year head coach, Lori Shuster, of her team’s performance
in 2005-06: “I really thought the girls made mark improvements from the
beginning of the season to the end. They are a young team, and if our
offense had come around a little earlier in the season, I think we
would have had even more success. But in all, I thought we showed
progress of some kind in every game, especially on the defensive end.”
The Patriots concluded the season 5-10 overall, with a 4-7 record against Tri-Valley League opponents.
Mustangs conclude 9-11
WEST WINFIELD — Mount Markham’s girls basketball team concluded the
regular season with a 9-11 record overall following a non-league loss
at West Canada Valley last Wednesday and a non-league win at home vs.
Ilion last Friday.
In a 72-37 setback at Center State Conference Division III-power
West Canada, sophomore point guard Gina Locorini continued her stellar
play with a team-high 16 points and two steals for the Lady Mustangs,
while sophomore forward Brandy Werczynski added six points, six
rebounds and four blocked shots.
Senior forward Sara Roseen scored a game-high 26 points for the state-ranked No. 9 Indians, who improved to 17-2 on the season.
Two nights later in its regular-season finale vs. Ilion, Locorini
connected on five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points to
lead Mount Markham to a 63-50 non-league win.
Junior guard Trisha McNamara added 12 points for the Mustangs, while Werczynski scored 10 and Kayla Greene seven in the win.
