CANASTOTA — Mount Markham’s girls basketball dropped to 5-5 in
league with a 51-47 setback at Center State Conference Division
II-rival Canastota last Friday night.
Sophomore point guard Gina Locorini, sophomore forward Brandy
Werczynski and junior forward Courtney Roberts all scored 11 points in
defeat for the Lady Mustangs (5-5, 8-10), who trailed 16-9 after the
first quarter of play.
Kendra Carver scored a game-high 12 points for the host Raiders, who
won for just the second time in the league and improved to 7-11 overall
on the season.
Mount Markham concludes the regular season with a road contest at
CSC Division III-champion West Canada Valley this Wednesday, before
having one final home game against CSC Division I-opponent Ilion on
Friday.
Indians snap skid
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — The Richfield Springs girls basketball team
snapped its season-long six-game losing streak with a 47-42 defeat of
visiting Morrisville-Eaton in a Center State Conference Division III
game last Friday.
Senior forward Lynzie Bond had a game-high 14 points to go along
with 14 rebounds for the Lady Indians, who erased a six-point halftime
deficit by outscoring the Warriors 30-19 in the second half of play.
Junior guard Kaitlin Bello added 13 points in the win, while
freshman forward Katie Moshier chipped in with eight points and seven
rebounds.
Two nights earlier in a 35-26 home loss to visiting Westmoreland,
Bello scored a team-high nine points for the Indians, Bond had six
points and 11 rebounds, while Moshier contributed four points and nine
rebounds.
Richfield Springs, now 2-7 in the league and 6-11 overall, concludes
its regular season with home games this Tuesday, Friday and Saturday
against CSC Division III-power West Canada Valley, Remsen and Old
Forge, respectively.
Pats split road games
CHERRY VALLEY — Cherry Valley-Springfield’s girls basketball team
split a pair of Tri-Valley League games last week, first winning on the
road at Edmeston last Wednesday, 49-44, before falling short at
Worcester on Friday, 49-46.
In the five-point defeat of the Panthers last Wednesday, junior
guard Jessica Guido scored a team-high 15 points, freshman forward
Courtney Van Brink finished with 13 points and 22 rebounds, senior
Ashley Van Brink pulled down 17 rebounds, while senior Kaylee
Wilson chipped in with eight points, seven rebounds, two steals, two
assists and one blocked shot.
In a 49-46 loss two nights later in Worcester, both Van Brinks
tallied a team-best 17 points apiece, with Courtney also collecting 13
rebounds for the Patriots. Cherry Valley-Springfield trailed by 16
points at the half before outscoring host Worcester 18-8 in the final
quarter to make a game of it.
The Lady Patriots, now 4-7 in the league and 5-9 overall, conclude
the 2005-06 season at home this Monday against non-league power Walton
on what will be Senior Night for Ashley Van Brink, Virginia Glynn and
Wilson.
