WEST WINFIELD — Mount Markham’s girls volleyball team rebounded from
a tough start to the season by rattling off three straight wins last
week to improve to 3-2 on the young campaign.
After dropping two five-game matches at home to perennial contenders
Tully and Little Falls to open the season, the Mustangs stormed past
Cooperstown, Ilion and New York Mills by a combined margin of
nine-games-to-one.
In last Tuesday’s 25-10, 25-9 and 25-12 win in Cooperstown, Kaitlyn
Farruggia had seven kills, 14 assists, six aces and two digs, Jenna
Farruggia tallied six kills, five aces and two digs, Melissa Haggerty
recorded four kills, five aces and eight digs, while Christine McGregor
added six assists and two digs.
In last Thursday’s 25-4, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-9 home win vs. Ilion,
Aundrea Dorie collected seven kills, Bridget Dickinson had four kills,
Miranda McNamara added three aces, while Catherine Carney chipped in
with five kills and six aces.
And in this past Saturday’s impressive 25-14, 25-22, 25-13 sweep at
previously-unbeaten New York Mills, Caitlin Farruggia had three kills,
25 assists and five digs, Haggerty collected four kills, four digs and
four aces, Carney tallied five kills, three aces and three digs, while
Jenna Farruggia contributed 15 kills and two digs.
The Mustangs’ game last Wednesday at Canastota was postponed.
Indians drop second straight
NEW YORK MILLS — After beginning the season with a victory at Mohawk
Nov. 30, the Richfield Springs girls volleyball team dropped its second
consecutive match with a 3-1 defeat at unbeaten powerhouse New York
Mills last Monday evening.
All four games were very competitive, however, with the Marauders prevailing by scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-21.
Leading the way statistically for the Lady Indians was Jenna Miller
(two aces and 13 kills), Camille Smith (three aces, three kills, 15
assists and two blocks), Alyssa Tennyson (two aces, three kills and
three digs) and Chelsea Camp (two aces, three kills and one block).
Ania Moskal collected 33 assists and Kyla Platt 19 kills for New
York Mills, which improved to 4-0 with the Center State Conference
crossover win.
Richfield’s league and home-opening match scheduled for last Wednesday with Morrisville-Eaton was postponed.
Lady Cats fall in Remsen
REMSEN — Owen D. Young’s girls volleyball team dropped to 1-2 on the
season with a tough five-game loss at Remsen in the Center State
Conference Division IV opener for both schools last Monday.
Jennifer Collins tallied eight kills, 14 digs and one assist in
defeat for the Wildcats, who lost by game scores of 17-25, 25-22,
25-23, 19-25 and 22-25. Teammate Courtney Peplinsky added three aces,
six kills, five assists and seven digs, Kassandra Harris had five
kills, five assists and four digs, while Amee Myack recorded three
aces, five kills and three assits.
Lindsay Maida had 15 aces for the host Rams, who improved to 3-1 overall with the victory.
Owen D. Young’s next two volleyball matches last Wednesday and Friday were both postponed. |
