DOLGEVILLE — One week after debuting decently in a one-point loss at
West Canada Valley, the Richfield Springs football team took it on the
chin against the powerhouse Dolgeville Blue Devils 45-0 at Bill Bynon
Field last Saturday afternoon.
New Class D East rival Dolgeville (1-0, 2-0), which ran over Mt.
Markham 21-6 in a non-league contest during week-one’s action, scored
14 points in the first quarter and 19 more in the second to assume an
overwhelming 33-0 advantage by the half.
Running back Chris Mosher carried the ball six times for 111 yards
for the Blue Devils, while quarterback Brett Radley threw for three
touchdowns and 168 yards.
Senior Teddy Dziadik rushed for 50 yards on 15 carries in defeat for
the Indians (0-2, 0-2), while fullback Kevin Cooper added 24 yards on
six carries.
Quarterback Kyle Richards was just 3-of-11 for 26 yards and two
interceptions, with two of the completed passes going to wide receiver
Justin Gage for 21 yards.
Brian Bruce and Dziadik each tallied six tackles on the defensive
side of the ball for Richfield Springs, while Gage recorded a team-high
seven.
“You gotta learn from it and hopefully we can build on the little
stuff we did right,” said first-year head coach Justin Higgins. “We
knew what we were in for. We had to play a perfect game and take
advantage of Dolgeville’s mistakes, but we failed to do that, and when
we made our mistakes, they capitalized. They’re an established program
and that’s what an established program does.”
The Indians will look for win No. 1 on the season in its home opener
against non-league opponent LaFayette this Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
