COOPERSTOWN – Otsego 2000’s executive director, Martha Frey, has announced her resignation after 10 years at the regional nonprofit organization in order to pursue family business matters and do private consulting. A native of Madison County, Frey assumed the position of executive director in 1998, having worked for the city of Minneapolis planning department and Woodward-Clyde Consultants, also of Minneapolis. While employed at Otsego 2000, Frey oversaw a number of projects, programs and advocacy campaigns, including the Glimmerglass Historic District, the Route 20 Scenic Byway, the Otsego and Schoharie County Historic Preservation Awards Program, and the Cooperstown Farmers’ Market. “Martha Frey has been a brilliant leader of Otsego 2000, uniting the principles of environmental protection and historic preservation,” said Henry S.F. Cooper Jr., president and founder of Otsego 2000. “In her advocacy of issues ranging from the creation of the Glimmerglass National Historic District to promoting appropriate siting of wind turbines, she has done as much as anyone in the community for the protection of our cultural landscape. She has been a defining presence. We will miss her,” Cooper added. “I have truly enjoyed working here and leaving the organization is definitely bittersweet,” Frey said. “It was a dream come true for me to return to New York State and work for an organization that was focused on preserving the region’s cultural landscapes and the rural character of central New York.” Frey is the president of the Route 20 Association of New York State. She and her husband, photographer Andy Baugnet, will continue to live outside of Middlefield Center. Former Otsego 2000 board member Nicole Dillingham will serve as interim executive director while the organization conducts a search for Frey’s replacement. Dillingham is a graduate of Northwestern Law School and a member of the bar of the state of California where she practiced complex commercial litigation for more than 23 years in San Francisco. She has also served as an arbitrator and mediator for many years. She and her husband, Gaylord, have a home in Springfield.
