The Glimmerglass Opera Guild is planning a bus trip to the Bard SummerScape at Annandale-on-Hudson, Sunday, Aug. 19. The late afternoon program is a part of the 18th Annual Bard Music Festival: Edward Elgar and His World, which offers performances of various works by Edward Elgar and his contemporaries. The performance will be held in the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, an outstanding facility designed by Frank Gehry, that has become an architectural landmark. This Elgar-only program begins at 4:30 p.m. with a pre-concert talk followed at 5:30 by the concert, which features selections from “The Kingdom, Op.51” and “The Dream of Gerontius, Op.35.” Soloists include Carolyn Betty, soprano; Vinson Cole, tenor; John Hancock, baritone; and Jane Irwin, mezzo-soprano; and the Bard Festival Chorale. The American Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Leon Botstein. A chartered bus will pick up participants at the Glimmerglass Opera, in Springfield, and Oneonta in the late morning. Upon arrival at Bard College, a prepared picnic will be eaten before the program. The cost for the outing, including chartered bus, picnic with beverages, pre-concert talk and orchestra concert seats, is $115. Reservations and information are available at 607-547-2162 or suchas@stny.rr.com.
