Jordanville Public Library celebrates its 100th birthday
|
On Saturday, August 23, 1 p.m., Paul Stillman of “Historically Speaking” will arrive on a horse-drawn wagon to reenact President Roosevelt’s dedication speech. He will be sharing anecdotes with Elizabeth Winthrop, great-granddaughter of Douglas and Corrine Robinson.
Tom McMillan and friends will provide music. There will be 1900’s games, a birthday cake and photos with the “President” for a small fee, as well as items for sales, a PowerPoint presentation and a display table of interesting artifacts and memorabilia.
The Library will be hosting an evening supper, beginning at 4:30 p.m., catered by Piggy Pat’s of New Hartford. Saints Jazz Quartet will provide additional music at 5 p.m.
Artist Matthew McCaslin will unveil a sculpture entitled “A Moment in Time,” which was constructed with watches donated by local residents. After the program, the sculpture will be offered on McCaslin’s Web site for bidding.
There will also be a silent auction of items by local artists. All proceeds will be donated to the Library for its building restoration project.
Prior to this event, the library is offering a commemorative treat to indulge your taste buds. In honor of its 100th anniversary, the Jordanville Public Library is now offering a chocolate replica of its likeness. Each $5.00 donation will benefit the library’s restoration fund. Chocolate replicas are available now for purchase at the Jordanville Public Library and at local businesses.
Tickets for the August 23 celebration will cost $15.00 for adults and $7.50 for children and may be purchased at the library or by mail prior to the event. Send a check with a self-addressed envelope to Jordanville Public Library at PO Box 44, Jordanville, NY 13361.
For more information, call the library at 315-858-2874.
