COOPERSTOWN – Members of Glimmerglass Opera’s 2007 Young American Artists Program will tour the Northeast, including local stops, from April 29 through May 15, performing “The World of Offenbach,” a concert of selections from Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld, La Perichole and The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein. All performances are free and open to the public. With stops throughout New York State, including Richfield Springs, Cherry Valley and Cooperstown, as well as Toronto, the Spring Tour concert features love duets, marches and the well-known Can-Can in an hour-long presentation sung in English. Featured performers include soprano Susan Hellman, mezzo-soprano Margaret Gawrysiak, tenor Christian Reinert, baritone Todd Boyce and pianist Tony Cho. Christopher Rovente is the stage director. “Offenbach is certainly one of the wittiest and most entertaining of composers – a kind of 19th-century Cole Porter if you will,” said John Conklin, Glimmerglass Opera’s associate artistic director. “On this tour, we will present excerpts from his grandly melodic Orpheus in the Underworld, which Glimmerglass will feature in this summer’s Festival Season, and we have also included engaging selections from two other of Offenbach’s operetta masterpieces.” The Glimmerglass Opera 2007 Spring Tour will stop in the following local locations: April 29, Cooperstown, The Otesaga Resort Hotel 5 p.m.; April 30, Cooperstown, Cooperstown High School, 1 p.m.; May 5, Cherry Valley, Cherry Valley Community Center, 12:30 p.m.; May 15, Richfield Springs, St. John’s Episcopal Church, 8 p.m.
