Staying Busy at Bronner Manor
By Laurie Hext |
Contrary to popular belief, I have not flown the coop at Bronner Manor. I am still nesting comfortably, chirping with the “Bronner Birds.” What a song we sing!
Birds migrate south for the winter. The hail storms that we have encountered on and off since May make some of us wish that we could spread our wings and fly with them.
On those hot and humid summer evenings, the “Bronner Birds” take up a new and very enjoyable pastime. We gather our flock and chat about the day’s events over at the blue building. Any outsider could lovingly refer to us as “Cackling Hens.”
The world evolves and changes have taken place at Bronner. Our game of Chicken Foot has been replaced by an exciting game of skill and strategy called Sequence. It is often frustrating, but always fun.
Age is not something that we want to think about, but here at Bronner Manor, the birthday parties we have help the transition seem a little smoother. Elaine Zesewitz was recently surprised on her 70th birthday by about 27 of her closest family, friends and a couple of her former co-workers.
Christie Stewart (Aunt Christie) and Shirley Curry also celebrated a birthday recently. This means that I need to think about my diet once again. Ha ha.
I have decided that when I celebrate another year, I hope to age as gracefully as my friends. You look marvelous, ladies.
Mary Zawko, a dear friend and former Bronner resident, paid us a visit on a few occasions this year. It is always wonderful to see Mary!
In closing, I would like to bid a fond farewell to Bronner Manor’s longest resident. Anne Smagalski called Bronner Manor home since its beginning 27 years ago. Anne now resides at The Country Manor, which is located outside of Herkimer. Thank you, Anne for your many years of love, laughter and friendship.
Until next time, take good care.
Laurie Hext is a resident of Bronner Manor in Richfield Springs.
