Let me get this straight, County Executive Joe Griffo raised our sales tax to the highest in the country to fight the Medicaid burden he claimed was skyrocketing. Come to find out, that burden was millions of dollars less than what he claimed, yet he has not reduced our sales tax rate. He claims a “study” (something he repeatedly says when he does not want to act) needs to be done to see if our budget can handle the tax reduction. My question is, if the sales tax was supposed to only go to fight the Medicaid problem, and the Medicaid problem is millions and millions of dollars less than what we were told, then why would Mr. Griffo not end the suffocating sales tax that is crippling residents’ pocketbooks and businesses’ ability to remain profitable? Could it be that he is following the age-old activity of tax-and-spend liberalism or better yet, bait-and-switch? He is taxing us under the guise of fighting Medicaid costs, and yet he is using the money for things other than Medicaid since the problem is not anywhere near as large as he led us to believe. This is not the man I want in the New York State Senate. Imagine what he will vote to do to our income taxes. Lou Parrotta Utica
