Well, I read yet another story on the crimes Corbin Douglas has been accused of, and I read more and more excuses as to why he is still out on the streets. The time has come for our society to start protecting the innocent. Who protects the child who is abused and neglected or who protects the family who meets a drunken driver on the road? I watched the Senate subcommittee recently and listened to a 12-year-old describe the heinous crimes against her. She was adopted at age 5 from Russia by an American pedophile. She was molested and starved for five years before being rescued. She sat before the subcommittee and told her life story. She explained that there is a stiffer penalty for downloading a song off the Internet than downloading child pornography. This man who adopted her posted pictures of her on the Internet. She innocently asked her lawyers if she, “could get them back.” The answer is no. They are out there forever. Her perpetrator is now in a mental hospital and, as she says, “lounging, watching TV, reading magazines and playing ping-pong.” I can’t even wrap my brain around this one. This child’s name is Masha and she is advocating for Masha’s law, which would entail stiffer sentences for downloading child pornography off the Internet. I stand with Masha. We need to hear her screams. It’s time. Paula Johnson Milford
