Owen D. Young meeting a positive experience
What a pleasant experience it was to attend the Oct. 26 Owen D.
Young school board meeting! Public attendance at this meeting was
impressive, with 15 community members and students joining the school
board members at the meeting. It was especially encouraging to see so
many students taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the
meeting and to comment during the public participation section.
I appreciated having Board President Brenda Hugick respond to my
inquiries, (during the public participation section of the meeting),
regarding the potential plans for windmills in the Starkville area and
the implications for the ODY School District. Thank you Ms. Hugick for
your candor in answering my questions.
Thanks as well to those community members who also contributed to
the discussion. It was extremely gratifying to hear the board exchange
views on moving their meetings from the smaller library alcove to
another location within the school which would be more comfortable for
the board and the public.
Many thanks to board members Deb Bronner, Ron Smith and Brenda
Hugick for the willingness to try another meeting spot...we look
forward to attending the next meeting in more conductive surroundings!
Congratulations to Board President Brenda Hugick on receiving the
prestigious Master of Boardmanship Award Wednesday evening. Ms. Hugick
is to be commended for completing the eight courses for this award in
areas like leadership and development opportunities.
Finally, it was great to see so many people come to hear what is
going on in the community and the implications it has for the ODY
school district. I hope that even more community members will attend
upcoming meetings and will continue to take an interest in what is
going on at the school and in the community.
