Garry makes campaign appearance in village

Hon. Elizabeth Garry, a candidate for the open position of New York State Supreme Court justice, made a recent campaign appearance at the recent Richfield Springs sales event, meeting and greeting the local vendors and shoppers. Garry is currently serving as the town justice of New Berlin, in neighboring Chenango County, and also serves as the president of the Chenango County Magistrate’s Association. She is also quite active in her local Rotary Club, and so made a point of stopping by the Rotary booth during her visit. “When I was asked to run for this opening I readily agreed, as this will bring my legal career full circle,” Garry said. “I began my career as the assistant to Supreme Court Justice Irad S. Ingraham, and for four years, I learned the work of this position from one of our finest judges. “I knew that I would some day seek my place on this bench, so I’ve spent the last 12 years practicing in this court, throughout the entire region of central New York. For the past five years I have also developed my skills on the bench, as town justice. If the voters will support me, I will now return to serve in the court where I began my career 16 years ago,” Garry added. The chair of Judge Garry’s election committee is her mentor, retired former justice Ingraham. The election district encompasses 10 counties, including all of Otsego, Chenango, and Delaware counties, and seven others. The justice who recently retired presided over numerous cases in Otsego County, so the justice elected this November is also quite likely to hear cases locally.
