SPRINGFIELD – On Sunday, May 21, area residents can take part in GREAT STRIDES: Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis, at Glimmerglass State Park. Registration starts at 1 p.m., with the walk beginning at 2 p.m. This national fund-raising program, now in its 18th year, aims to raise $32.5 million in 2006 to support vital cystic fibrosis (CF) research, education and care programs. GREAT STRIDES is the CF Foundation’s largest and fastest-growing signature event. More than 91 cents of every dollar raised by the CF Foundation is used to fund CF research and care programs. Participants in GREAT STRIDES are encouraged to raise a minimum of $150 through pre-paid sponsorships that are then used to fund research and care for new drugs to treat the disease and for the development of a cure.
