The Richfield Springs American Legion Post 616 held its February
meeting Monday, Feb. 13. Many things are to come for the upcoming year.
Any member (Legion, SAL, Auxiliary) wishing to submit news for our
letter, please contact Sue Gardner.
Charles West reported on the current membership. We are currently
below count to hit our 100 percent membership. Those of you who have
not paid as of yet, are asked to do so by sending in your payment
either to Charles or the bartender of the Legion. Let’s get those dues
in!
The annual American Legion birthday dinner will be held Saturday,
March 18, at 7 p.m. Social hour will commence at 6 p.m. All wishing to
attend are asked to sign up at the Legion by Saturday, March 11. A fee
of $3 will be charged for guests; dinner is free for any current paid
member. A corned beef dinner, with all the trimmings, will be the menu
of the night.
On Friday, March 10, six students from Richfield Springs were chosen
for Boys State. The winners were: Luke Soposki, Kevin Spytko, Nick
Sovocool and Dan Zurmuhlen. Alternates were Cory Beopple and Jeremy
Bray. Congratulations to all!
A great big thank you goes out to Frank Estigo for all of his
tireless hours he put into his work on the military address program.
These bundles are located at various sites throughout the community for
soldiers’ names and addresses to be submitted. In turn, well wishers
will be able to send cards or packages as a sign of support to these
men and women out there fighting for our freedom.
Our annual Memorial Day chicken BBQ is right around the corner.
Please, keep in mind that this is all volunteer, and a lot of help is
needed to pull this event off. Members, please give of yourselves and
help out. The entire public is encouraged to come enjoy the day. Times
of the events will be published at a later date.
The Sons of the American Legion have a raffle going on starting
after March 1. First prize is an 18 horsepower White Lawn Tractor (42
inch cut). Second prize is a Cub Cadet self-propelled lawn mower. Third
prize is a gas trimmer. Tickets are available from any SAL member or
the American Legion bar staff for a donation of $5 per ticket. The
drawing will be held May 29.
Let’s support these guys, who are a great asset to our Legion
family! Please look for news from our forever-faithful Auxiliary and
for events happening within that branch of our tree.
Members on our sick board include Ralph Osterhoudt, Ward House and
Alex Melko. A speedy recovery is wished for all three. We send our
respects to the family of Donald Hill, who passed away recently.
Goodbye our comrade, our Legionnaire, our friend.
Until next time...
