HCCC features Local Artists
|
Two local artists joined together for a showing at Herkimer County Community College Cogar Gallery last month, with their opening reception held on Friday, August 27. Thirty seven paintings were featured the works of Marge W. Walters and Ed McDaniel, both residents of Richfield Springs. According to information provided by the college, McDaniel’s abstract paintings have been featured in many juried exhibits, including the Cooperstown National and Regional Juried Exhibits, the Adirondack Regional in Old Forge, the Kirckland Art Center Juried Show and the SUNYIT Juried Show. While McDaniel described the blend of their two styles as “Serenity and craziness,” Walters chose a more poetic way to compare the two. “Mine are vast expanses of sky and clouds and water, crashing against, or quietly lapping against shores. His canvas comes to life in splashes of energy and emotion,” she said. Walters has been painting landscapes for more than thirty years, and has worked with a number of different organizations, including the NYC Housing Authority and Colonial Restoration in Williamsburg, Virginia. She serves executive director of the Cooperstown Artist Association, charter member of the National Museum of American Women in the Arts and is an exhibint member of the Smithy Pioneer Gallery of Cooperstown, according to information provided by HCCC. A number of local Richfield residents traveled north up to Herkimer to support the artists, including Town of Richfield Supervisor, Wayne King and his wife Lani. (Photos by Janine Giordano)
