jgiordano@rsmercury.comVAN HORNESVILLE – A magical evening is guaranteed for all as Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” comes to life on the Owen D. Young Central School stage March 28 and 29. According to Tom MacMillan, advisor to the ODY drama club, students have been working hard on preparing for this year’s musical. Senior Casey Hajczewski takes the lead as Cinderella in this timeless classic story of sibling rivalry, good conquering evil and true love conquering all. Her Prince Charming is being played by Andrew Sorenson, an eighth grader. In addition to gathering in the gym regularly to practice weekdays from 3:15-5:15, MacMillan said earlier this week that the cast also must double as the crew. In addition to Hajczewski, senior Brittany Mortensen will also be performing in this year’s production. Mortensen will play Cinderella’s fairy godmother. Cinderella’s wicked stepmother will be played by junior Cassie Frasier, and her equally nefarious stepsisters will be played by Katie Eckler and Devin Fischer, both sophomores. Junior Ashley Congdon and eighth grader David Oldick have been cast as the king and queen. Along with MacMillan, who serves as ODY’s music teacher, the production is being co-directed by ODY’s librarian, Megan McCoy. MacMillan, McCoy and the cast have been joined by Beverly Guilfoyle, a sixth grade teacher at ODY who is in charge of costumes. Tickets are selling for $5 for adults and $4 for all students. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium.
