With a recent pledge from Assemblyman Bill MaGee and a check from NBT Bank, fundraising efforts by the Zone’s community center committee have brought the total collected to more than half needed for the project, according to co-chair Jackie Hinckley. While the cost to build the community center is estimated at around $130,000, Hinckley said donations are coming in not just in the form of monetary pledges and checks, but also in vows of service and time to see the project completed. Hinckley said she was very grateful for MaGee’s pledge of $12,000 of state funds toward the project, which will benefit all of Richfield Springs, not just youths. The contribution helped push The Zone’s fundraising effort past the halfway mark, she added. This past Monday, Hinckley and Ross Jones, The Zone building committee chairperson, received a $2,000 check from NBT Bank Manager Alice Crist and Regional Manager Denise Snyder. As a way to thank major contributors, Hinckley said a “Time and Talent” wall listing donors, similar to the financial contributions wall, will be included in the finished building. People like the architect who did the blueprints and donated $1,000 towards his service will be recognized on the Time and Talent wall. “Time and talent are just as valuable as money donations,” Hinckley said. “We want to honor those people as well.” Donations toward the construction of the community center can be mailed to the Zone Community Center, P.O. Box 108, Richfield Springs, NY 13439.
