COOPERSTOWN – In response to a growing need for convenient comprehensive health care for school aged children in our region, the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) program at Bassett Healthcare announces the opening of three new centers in Cooperstown, Middleburgh, and Worcester. Bassett Healthcare’s school-based health team has been working for the last two years with the school boards and communities in those districts to make this in-school health care program a reality. The SBHC program was established in 1991 at Bassett as part of a regional health initiative providing comprehensive health care services in school settings to students from kindergarten through grade 12. The success of school-based health care in providing easy access to quality health care for children in rural areas received national attention last May when Bassett’s program won top honors in the category of Outstanding Rural Health Program by the National Rural Health Association for their contributions to rural health. “We wanted to be able to provide the same convenient health care to additional students in these three new centers, as we have done with great success for a number of years in our other centers,” said Jane Hamilton, R.N., School-Based Health Program coordinator. “We are certain that parents and children alike will benefit from this wonderful health care program.”
