COOPERSTOWN – This holiday season, The Farmers’ Museum and the Fenimore Art Museum have created an opportunity for family and friends to spend at the museums with their holiday-themed programming and events. On Dec. 1, 2, 8 and 9, The Farmers’ Museum will present Holiday Lantern Tours, an hour-long guided lantern tour through the museum’s candlelit historic village. Through stops at select buildings throughout the village, visitors will learn about the crafts and trades of Christmas past, meet the residents and shop keepers and dance to traditional holiday music in Bump Tavern. The tour concludes with a horse-drawn wagon ride to the main barn. On Saturday, Dec. 16, the Fenimore Art Museum presents Holiday Hoopla for Kids!, from 1-3 p.m., at The Louis C. Jones Center at The Farmers’ Museum. Children will participate in an afternoon of festive activities, including decorating a gingerbread house, holiday ornament making and holiday music. The museums’ special events culminate with one of central New York’s brightest holiday traditions, Candlelight Evening, Sunday, Dec. 17, from 3-7 p.m. The Farmers’ Museum takes on a magical appearance, decorated in greenery and illuminated by hundreds of candles and lamp light. Visitors can ride through the museum in wagons pulled by draft horses with full sets of harness bells. Complimentary wassail, caroling, music, and more are part of this festive evening. Across the road at the Fenimore Art Museum, visitors will see the holiday decorations provided by area garden clubs as they tour through the museum.
