COLUMBIA CENTER – The town of Columbia planning board will start surveying town property owners as part of a project to update Columbia’s 1999 Comprehensive Plan. A similar survey was last conducted in 1989. The Comprehensive Plan, sometimes referred to as a Master Plan, briefly describes the town’s natural features, soil and water resources, history and demographics, and attempts to identify population, land use, and housing trends. As the plan serves to guide town officials in interpreting and updating land use laws, a good response to the survey is hoped for. After the survey returns have been reviewed, the planning board will proceed with completing the plan update, and a public hearing on the draft would follow during the late fall. A summary of survey returns will be made available through the planning board, and will be posted on the town’s website at www.townofcolumbia.org.
