As of 2:47 p.m. last Thursday afternoon, strained relations between
Herkimer County and town of Warren officials had been resolved with a
handshake, Herkimer County Administrator James Wallace recounted later
in the day.
“I’d say we have a pretty good relationship as of 2:47 this
afternoon,” Wallace said, referring to complaints voiced last week by
town of Warren officials that the county was not working with the towns
on wind energy projects being considered by the communities.
“We had a meeting at staff level, trying to formulate a position
that is acceptable to the school districts, towns (and residents)
involved. We definitely understand we have to have a policy ready no
later than the end of April.”
Wallace said there are three projects in Herkimer County, including
the town of Warren. These are located in the town of Webb, through
Orion Energy and Tamarack Subsidiary and Fairfield in Norway, through
PPM Atlantic Renewable.
Wallace said Herkimer has no formal position as of yet. After
waiting a year (from Feb. 17, 2005 to Feb. 17, 2006) for information
from the different companies and organizations involved, Wallace said
the county has directed Encap Consultants, of Connecticut, to review
the information.
“We shook hands very amicably today,” he added. “I think we all realize now that we’re all on the same page.”
Town of Warren Supervisor Richard Jack and board member Leslie Miller did not respond prior to deadline.
