Historical society offers commemorative coin

ONEONTA – The Greater Oneonta Historical Society, in cooperation
with Leatherstocking Press, is offering proofs of a city of Oneonta
coin, commemorating the upcoming centennial of the city charter. The
proof quality coins are .999 fine silver, weighing one half troy ounce,
with a diameter of 1.283 inches (slightly larger than a Kennedy half
dollar). Only 500 proof coins will be minted. The coins will picture a
caboose, now in Neahwa Park, in which the Brotherhood of Railroad
Trainmen was formed, on one side and an early baseball scene on the
other.
The coins are $25 each ($22.50 for GOHS members). The supply of
these proofs is permanently limited to 500, and GOHS reserves the right
to limit the number of coins ordered by an individual. The coins will
be available by mid-February, but can be pre ordered at the GOHS
History Center, 183 Main Street. Orders will also be taken by mail
(P.O. Box 814, Oneonta, NY 13820) and must be accompanied by a check
payable to GOHS for $25, plus name, address, and phone number. For more
information, see www.OneontaHistory.org.
