Columbia appointments made at organizational meeting

COLUMBIA CENTER – The board approved a number of actions paving the
way for town business, including the naming of the paper to be used for
official purposes as the Herkimer Evening Telegram. NBT is the bank
approved for official town business. The Herkimer County Humane Society
was listed as the official dog pound. The town’s garbage contract was
awarded to Value Waste service for $336.72 per year.
Elected officials’ salaries were set according to the pay schedule
and were listed as follows: the highway superintendent position is
scheduled to receive $33,500 per year; the town supervisor is scheduled
to receive a yearly salary of $5,500. The town clerk position will
receive $7,150 per year and the town justice is set to receive $6,300
per year.
Board members will receive $1,450 per year, while the tax collector, will receive a salary of $1,600.
Other positions with yearly salaries set at last week’s meeting
included the budget officer for $600; codes enforcer, $3,600; zoning
enforcement officer, $1,500; health officer, $150; historian, $300;
registrar of vital statistics, $600; court clerk, $1,700; and dog
control officer, $2,000.
Other position salaries set for the year included the town attorney
at $100 per hour, to be paid monthly; P. Brown Hall monitor, $9 per
use, plus mileage; deputy highway superintendent at $750 per year; and
town bookkeeper at $5,200 per year.
Five planning board member salaries were set at $400 each per year;
with an additional $200 to be paid for the secretary position and an
additional $300 for the chairman’s position.
Similarly, zoning board of appeals members will be paid $250
annually, except for the secretary, who will receive $350 a year, and
the chairman, who will receive $400 per year.
Board of review members will receive $150 per year and the chairman will receive $250 per year.
Appointments include George Weiss as budget officer and health
officer; codes enforcer and zoning enforcement officer, Mitchell Van
Winkler; historian, Donna Rubin; marriage officer, Pat Woytowich; court
clerk, Cindy Latt; dog control officer, David Weiss; deputy town
supervisor, Theodore Teletnick; deputy town clerk and registrar, Peter
Woytowich; and deputy highway superintendent, Bruce Learned.
Planning board appointments include Ronald Bayzon, John Murtha, and Donna Rubin, as an alternate member.
Zoning Board of Appeals reappointments include David Blanchard, Deborah Kidder, David Weiss and Gary Southard as an alternate.
