Verizon Wireless will be expanding and enhancing service for
Richfield Springs area residents come February with the recent leasing
of another cell tower, already located at 192 Millstone Road in
Richfield Springs.
This latest tower, according to Verizon Wireless spokesperson John
O’Malley, is actually owned by American Tower, whose corporate
headquarters is in Boston, Mass.
Using this additional tower “will help us improve service in the
area. We’ll have better coverage and better capacity,” said O’Malley.
“It will also help increase the number of calls from the area Verizon
will be able to handle.”
Although the tower is already in place, O’Malley said, “Verizon will
start construction as soon as possible. We’ve got to put our equipment
on it, get the final paperwork signed,” and then it will be ready to be
turned on in February.
Just people in the general area of Richfield Springs will benefit from the new tower, he added.
The tower stands 1,777 feet tall, according to information provided
by American Tower’s website, www.americantower.com. It is self
supporting and stands at a ground elevation of 1,587 feet.
Information provided by its website stated that American Tower has
22,000 sites in the U.S., Mexico and Brazil. In addition to the
headquarters in Boston, they have North American offices in Washington,
California, Michigan, Illinois, Massachusetts, South Carolina and
Georgia. They also have offices in Mexico and Spain.
American Tower buys and cells existing towers and offers them to wireless companies for either purchase or lease.
