Volunteer bell ringers for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive are
still needed in Otsego and Herkimer counties, among others.
“There are many communities where we critically need bell ringer
volunteers,” said Rick Damore, a representative for the Salvation Army.
“There are mostly villages and small cities where The Salvation Army
provides services through its volunteer committees. There are also
community centers in larger cities who may still need bell ringers.
“We have communities where we have not received one volunteer call.
Perhaps, it is because the community does not see a Salvation Army
physically present, and doesn’t realize that we are available to them
in times of crisis,” added Damore. “On the contrary, The Salvation
Army, Empire State Division, blankets 48 upstate New York counties in
services rendered.
“In our cities and their surrounding communities, we have area
services and community centers; in villages and their surrounding
areas, we have service units with volunteers who help us reach those in
crisis and emergency situations.”
A complete listing of community centers and service units is available online at www.redkettles.org.
Individuals and families, school and church groups, clubs,
organizations, and companies are asked to call as soon as possible. To
volunteer, contact the Red Kettle Center. Call toll free at
1-877-733-6041 or go online to www.redkettles.org.
“It’s a great activity for everyone. There’s such joy in knowing
that you are helping others in need or facing a disaster,” said Damore.
“Please call to volunteer.”
