This year’s 2006 Richfield Springs Central School yearbook, SPA,
will attempt not only to capture the people and events that make this
school year unique, but it will also be a record of the school district
community that is a part of our school as well.
Yearbooks are really books about not only the school, but also the
community the school is in. Oftentimes, people researching family
histories and those who look for local history information will use a
school’s yearbooks to gain information.
Yearbooks hold information about the events, businesses, and people that made up the school district for that specific year.
This year’s SPA will not be simply about the 2006 graduating class
at RSCS, but will try to capture the entire student body, K-12.
Thanks to a generous donation from Kinney’s Drugs and Wal-Mart, the
yearbook staff has been given 24 disposable cameras that will soon be
placed in the hands of the staff at RSCS. The staff will assist the
yearbook staff in taking candid photos of the students and activities
at school.
On Friday, Sept. 30, the yearbook advisors, along with students John
Ferens, Marissa Ames, Elaina Clickman, and Angela Greseck, attended an
all-day workshop at SUNY Oneonta, sponsored by Herff-Jones, publishers
of the school’s yearbook.
The yearbook’s theme this year is “It’s Our Time.” The students were
able to work with a graphic artist from the company and design the 2006
cover of the SPA.
“We came up with an awesome cover. I think people will be pleased,” said Greseck.
“We’re not really saying too much about it...but it is really cool,” said Ames.
This year’s book will devote several pages to the Bronner
Street School and contain photos of some of the classes that attended
there. The yearbook staff is hoping that former students of the school
will offer some memories and anecdotes of attending school there.
“We have gotten a few responses from folks who attended school
there, and they are fun to read. I think people will enjoy them,” said
Karen Watson. “We need recollections. If folks don’t want to write
them, we can have the kids on the yearbook staff come and write for
them. Folks can call the school and we’ll set something up.”
David and Pauline Lynch, of Richfield Springs, have offered some
photos and material related to the Bronner Street School for use in the
2006 SPA. Some of these will be reproduced and included in the Bronner
Street School tribute.
The 2006 SPA is on sale in October for $45. This amount is
comparable to other schools in the area. After October, the price rises
to $55.
“Very few extra copies of the 2006 SPA will be ordered,” said
Watson. “The yearbook staff will be selling yearbook orders in school
and community members can order a yearbook by sending a check payable
to ‘RSCS Yearbook’ to the school before Nov. 1. This year’s yearbook
staff is a group of eager and energetic kids. They’re a fun group to
work with.”
Bruce Watson is a teacher at RSCS.
