Railroad fined by NJ DEC for pollution
|
COOPERSTOWN – The New York Susquehanna and Western Railway
Corporation has been fined $2.5 million by the New Jersey Department of
Environmental Conservation for alleged environmental violations. After
an extensive investigation, the DEC said the Cooperstown based railroad
company had violated state solid waste and pollution laws at five sites
in North Bergen by loading solid and hazardous waste outdoors resulting
in air pollution. New York Susquehanna and Western has 20 days to
request a hearing regarding the DEC’s fines.
